Abstract

An examination of the structure of Norman Mailer’s Ancient Evenings as a particularly modernist one and as, in turn, an important aid to reading Ancient Evenings—its vision and story and, to an extent, style—is tied to comprehension of its modernist construction.

    Alexander Hicks is Professor of Sociology and adjunct Professor of Political Science and Film and Media Studies at Emory University. He is author or co-author of several books including the prize-winning Social Democracy and Welfare Capitalism; and he is author of numerous papers in leading social science journals, as well as of a few papers in The Mailer Review.
