Abstract

Written in a Mailerian third person, this creative nonfiction piece follows a Mailer scholar to Brooklyn days after the 2016 presidential election, where John Buffalo Mailer arranges for the tattoo artist Josh Lord to ink a “Mailer for Mayor” caricature on his arm, an epilogue to Buffalo Mailer’s serialized Inked profile “Lord’s Eye.” The narrative reflects on tattoos as personal storytelling and as a balm in a dark political moment. A shorter version appeared in Provincetown Arts in 2018.
