Nicholas Samaras earned his PhD at the University of Denver and won The Yale Series of Younger Poets Award with his first book, Hands of the Saddlemaker. He is from Patmos, Greece (the “Island of the Apocalypse”), and was brought in exile to be raised in America. Having lived in Greece, England, Wales, Switzerland, Austria, Yugoslavia, Jerusalem, he writes from a place of permanent exile, and specializes in teaching Literature of Exile. His next book, American Psalm, World Psalm, is forthcoming from Ashland Poetry Press in 2014. He is now completing a memoir on his experience living underground as a child.
