Abstract

A discussion of Mailer’s use of genre that was nowhere more evident than in his literary journalism, specifically the New Journalism of the post-WWII era, a hybrid genre created by some of the most important formal and stylistic innovators of the 1960s and beyond.

Author Biography

  • Jason Mosser, Georgia Gwinnett College

    Jason Mosser is an Associate Professor of English at Georgia Gwinnett College. In his career he has taught at West Virginia University, the University of Georgia, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Atlanta College of Art, Rockford College, and Gainesville State College. His articles on literary journalism have appeared in The Mailer Review and in Literary Journalism Studies. His book, Participatory Journalism of Michael Herr, Norman Mailer, Hunter S. Thompson, and Joan Didion: Creating New Reporting Styles, has just been published by The Edwin Mellen Press.
