Call for Submissions

The Mailer Review invites submissions for upcoming volumes of the journal, including Volume 18 (2024).

Founded to support rigorous scholarship on the life, work, and cultural legacy of Norman Mailer, the journal welcomes original contributions that engage Mailer’s writing, public career, and historical moment from a wide range of critical perspectives.

We seek submissions that reflect the diversity of contemporary Mailer studies, including but not limited to essays that examine Mailer’s fiction, nonfiction, journalism, correspondence, interviews, and public persona. Contributors are encouraged to consider Mailer in relation to broader literary, political, and cultural contexts.

Topics and Approaches

While submissions on any aspect of Mailer’s life and work are welcome, the editors particularly invite work that engages with:

  • Comparative studies situating Mailer alongside other writers, artists, intellectuals, or cultural movements

  • International or transnational perspectives on Mailer’s reception, influence, or translation

  • Race, gender, sexuality, and embodiment in Mailer’s writing and public discourse

  • Masculinity, power, violence, and cultural performance

  • Mailer and political history, including war, empire, protest, and state power

  • Media, celebrity, and authorship in twentieth- and twenty-first-century culture

  • Archival research, biographical reassessment, or historiographic inquiry

  • New theoretical, methodological, or interdisciplinary approaches to Mailer studies
