Abstract

A postscript to Legs McNeil’s 1979 High Times interview with Norman Mailer: how the proto-punk McNeil came to meet Mailer, took him to see the Ramones and Shrapnel at CBGB, and conducted the interview the next day, and what the encounter suggests about Mailer’s reach into the punk and counterculture audience after The Executioner’s Song.
