Abstract

Introduced by a headnote from J. Michael Lennon, then Wilkes University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, this piece presents Lennon’s citation for Mailer’s honorary Doctor of Humane Letters and Mailer’s brief commencement address at Wilkes University on May 27, 1995. Mailer tells the graduates that the end of the Cold War has left a fractious, unstructured nation, but that they go forth as pioneers into a new frontier where the democratic dream might be renewed.
